White Gold Corp. welcomes the recent announcement by Natural Resources Canada on the conditional approval of up to C$40 million in federal funding to undertake pre-feasibility activities to advance a 765-kilometre, high-voltage transmission line network that would connect the Yukon electrical grid to the North American grid in British Columbia. In addition, other mining infrastructure investment initiatives by the Yukon Government and other Government bodies include the redevelopment of the port and dock in Skagway, Alaska to increase capacity in exports of mining concentrates, and the Yukon Resource Gateway Program which will systematically upgrade 650 km of existing roads in the territory.
"Recent announcements by the Federal and Territorial Government further demonstrate the commitment to advancing the mining industry and will accelerate Yukon's path towards becoming a leading mining jurisdiction. The envisioned Yukon power grid connection with British Columbia in conjunction with the territorial investment to upgrade the Skagway Port in Alaska, and the continued advancement of the Resource Gateway Project represents significant initiatives. These projects will have a vital role in unlocking the rich mineral endowment of the territory and we applaud the continued support of Yukon mining by all levels of government," stated David D'Onofrio, Chief Executive Officer of White Gold Corp.
The connection to the B.C. power grid will significantly increase Yukon's current energy infrastructure to meet the future energy demand of the current and future mining projects in the territory which are advancing towards development. Notable advanced projects in the prolific White Gold district include White Gold's flagship which contains an estimated 1,152,900 ounces of gold in Indicated Resources at 2.23 g/t and 942,400 ounces of gold in Inferred Resources at 1.54 g/t.
In the fall of 2023, the Yukon Government also announced a potentially significant investment in the Municipality of Skagway’s redevelopment of their port infrastructure to continue to support ore export for the Yukon mining industry. The Port of Skagway has historically been the preferred port to ship concentrates from the Yukon.
The Yukon Resource Gateway Program also continues to advance quickly, with many components of the planned 650 kilometres of road upgrades now complete, and will further improve access in areas with high mineral potential and active mining in the Yukon.
